Aires Populares Peruanos

2025
Coco Vega

Consists of Coco’s arrangements of a repertoire from the final years of the colonial era and the dawn of the republican era of Peru. The set includes themes from the collection gathered by Baltazar Martinez de Compañon towards the end of the 18th century, as well as from the collection gathered by Claudio Rebagliati around the end of the 19th century. Rebagliati was an immigrant from Italy who was enchanted by Peruvian life and culture. Coco chose this collection deliberately because they include themes of northern origin (the region where he was born) as well as themes inspired by the zamacueca genre, which historically preceded the marinera.
