Coco Vega

Coco is a concert artist, arranger and composer of the guitar, as well as an avid researcher of the history of Peruvian guitar music. He was born in Piura, Peru. He discovered his love for the guitar and started his musical education at the age of 9, inspired by his father. His efforts quickly earned him the attention of his teachers who became enthusiastic mentors of his musical development.

He furthered his academic development thanks to a full scholarship granted by what is now the “National University of Music of Peru”, where he deepened his knowledge and skills of the classical guitar under the mentorship of renowned artists such as Ricardo Barreda and Oscar Zamora.

By age 18 he was a fully developed soloist, and was invited to perform Rodrigos’s “Concierto de Aranjuez” with the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru under the direction of maestro Jose Carlos Santos.

Coco Vega was a member of the “Aranjuez Guitar Quartet”, one of the most prominent and internationally famous chamber music ensembles in Peru. With the quartet he toured through Europe and North America, and participated in the recording of 4 musical productions.

As his academic maturity progressed, he remained in touch with his roots in northern Peru, which led to his development as a Peruvian popular music guitarist, now recognized as one of the most important figures in that genre. In that capacity, he performs not only in his own concerts but also accompanying such popular artists as Susana Baca, Juan Diego Flores, Eva Ayllón, Araceli Poma, and others.

Coco’s professional trajectory has received accolades from eminent figures of the Peruvian musical culture, among them, Carlos Hayre, Raul Garcia Zarate and Chalena Vasquez. Coco has gained international recognition for his contribution to the dissemination of music from his Country through virtuoso performance in venues such as Concierto Bank Austria Salon (Viena, Austria), School of Music in Dusseldorf, Germany (Master Class), International Guitar Festival (Panama), Auditorio de Guitarras de Luthier (Madrid, Spain), National Conservatory of Music in Mexico (Concert and Master Class), and many others.

To this date, Coco has published a sheet music collection and five recorded productions as a soloist, which summarize his vast professional experience and the versatility of his repertoire, these include a gamut of popular songs and melodies from Latin America.
